Beyond the Stage: How Actcessible Lives the "ACT" Principle

In the world of performance and arts, it’s easy for mission statements to feel like a collection of nice-sounding words tucked away on an "Ab

out" page. But at Actcessible, we believe values aren’t meant to sit idle - they are the pulse of everything we do.

Our commitment to our audiences, partners, and participants is built on a foundation we call the ACT principle. It’s not just a clever acronym; it’s our promise to show up, tune in, and make space for everyone.

The ACT Principle in Action

Purple icons: an A with cycle labeled "Adaptable," a heart in a circle labeled "Compassionate," and a T with people labeled "Team-Spirited."

When we talk about accessibility, we aren’t just ticking boxes; we are changing the way art is experienced. Here is how we put our values to work:

  • Adaptable: We don’t believe in a "one-size-fits-all" performance. Whether we are in a traditional theatre, a hospital ward, or a local classroom, we meet our audience where they are. This means weaving in BSL interpretation alongside dialogue, providing audio description for those who need it, and staying creative enough to adjust our delivery on the fly. Inclusion isn't an afterthought; it's the opening act.

  • Compassionate: For us, the performance doesn't end when the curtain drops. True compassion is about the connection that follows. We prioritise active listening, whether that’s through post-show discussions, educational workshops, or simply holding space for a child to share what they’ve learned. We approach every story with empathy and respect, ensuring that everyone feels heard, valued, and safe.

  • Team Spirited: Change-making is a group effort. Our team comes together with a shared passion for equality, diversity, and inclusion. We know that our greatest strength lies in our different perspectives. By supporting one another, we ensure that our mission remains the heart of every decision we make. We move forward because we move together.

Why It Matters

Accessibility is not just about physical access; it is about emotional belonging. When we live by the ACT principle, we are doing more than putting on a show - we are building a community where every individual feels they have a seat at the table.

We are proud to champion a future where art is truly universal, and we invite you to join us on that journey. Because when we lead with Adaptability, Compassion, and Team Spirit, there is no limit to what we can create together.
