Johnnie Lacy

Johnnie’s journey began after she bravely faced polio as a teenager, leading her to use a wheelchair.

 

Yet, when the world told her “no,” she refused to back down.

She became a pioneering force behind one of the first Centers for Independent Living, shattering barriers and proving that disabled individuals, especially Black disabled individuals, have a rightful place in every room.​​
